Educational psychologist · Kozhikode

Thirty-five years with children who learn differently.

I teach, write, and run clinics for students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and hearing impairment. Most of that work has been in Kerala — first in special schools, then at the university.

Dean & Director, AWH College of Education, Feroke. Formerly Director, Institute of Research in Learning Disabilities, M.G. University. Chairman, Kerala Sign Language Academy.

What I work on

Screening for learning disability

Culturally fitted tests for Malayalam-medium classrooms — conjunct consonants, vowel diacritics, mirror writing — rather than translated Western batteries.

Braille and tactile literacy

Author of BRAILLE: The Eye Opener of the Blind. The Braille Research Centre grew out of that book: teaching methods, not gadgets.

Sign language in the family

How deaf children, their parents, and hearing classmates actually talk to one another — and what schools do with that fact.

Qualifications

Psychology, education, special pedagogy, counselling. The diplomas are the practical half — the clinic and the classroom, not only the thesis.

Inclusive education is not a classroom adjustment. It is the older idea that a child who learns differently is still owed the same dignity, and the same chance, as any other.

Institutions looking for a lecture, a screening clinic, or a second reader on a thesis can write in the ordinary way.
